Overview
While a University undergraduate student in the early to mid 1980s, I enjoyed organic chemistry. I finished my University undergraduate B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1987, shortly after which I started postgraduate studies. My particular organic chemistry interests at that time included 'Enolate/Aza-Claisen Rearrangement Protocols,' 1989.
For the most part I teach organic chemistry. I have taught both general chemistry and organic chemistry. I have been teaching now for over 18 years (now in my 14th year teaching as a full-time faculty member for the Sacramento City College, Division of Science & Allied Health). I teach presently within the Science & Allied Health Division (SCC-SAH) from 2001 to the present day. As recent chair of the Chemistry Department, I was involved in curriculum development. I have also served on the Sacramento City College equity committee and the curriculum committee.
Memberships
I am a member of the National Parent-Teacher Association and a member of the local Parent-Teacher Association. My children have benefited from receiving an excellent education from dedicated teachers. As a parent myself, I find the National and local PTA organizations provide useful resources for both parents and PTAs. I strongly recommend joining both at the national and local level Parent-Teacher Association
I am a member of the American Chemical Society - Division of Chemical Education. I find this division to be of practical use for chemists interested in teaching at the University/Community College level. More information about the division can be found at ACS Division of Chemical Education
I am a member of the Two-Year College Chemistry Consortium. College Chemistry Consortium
